They said their apartment on the former Loring base was wet and moldy. Then they got an eviction notice.
Tenants David Berry Sr., 80, and his son Jim Berry filed suit in Caribou District Court against the Loring Development Authority and J.A.K.S. Property Management, alleging mold, water damage, cracked foundations, and unsealed doors/windows at their apartment on the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. Five days after Jim Berry complained at a July 16 board meeting, the family received a no-cause eviction notice dated July 17. The Berrys argue violations of Maine habitability law. Pine Tree Legal Assistance is representing them. The Loring base is a Superfund site requiring federal environmental review before demolition of condemned buildings.
